Box Score EMU's baseball men fell at host Hood College (22-5) in a non-conference single game on Tuesday afternoon in Frederick, Md.
The Royals currently stand at 11-19 overall and step back into league play this Saturday, as they travel to No. 8 Randolph-Macon.
After a scoreless first frame, Hood took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Blake Schaar (Orange, Va./The Covenant School) got things going for the Royals after singling down the third base line. Daniel Scott (Moneta, Va./Staunton River) sent an RBI double to left field to knot the score at one.
The Blazers struck again in the fourth off an RBI base hit to make it 2-1. A one-out double put runners on second and third before a ground out to short drove in another run, 3-1.
Brett Lindsay (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) and Ray Tricarico (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) hit back-to-back singles to put EMU in scoring position in the top of the sixth. Billy Quinn (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) bunted down the third base line to load the bases, which was followed up by a two-RBI single from Matt Culbreath (Dinwiddie, Va./Dinwiddie) to tie the score 3-3.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Blazers would score what proved to be the winning run on an error, for a final decision of 4-3.
Starter Austin Carroll (Chester, Va./Matoaca) took the loss, as he pitched 6.0 innings for EMU before turning the ball over to the bullpen, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk. Michael Wilhite (Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin) pitched the final 2.0 for the Royals, allowing one run.
Scott went 2-5 on the day with an RBI, while Culbreath went 1-3 with two RBIs.
