Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 There were no upsets in the making on Saturday, as EMU's baseball men were overpowered at Randolph-Macon Saturday afternoon in Ashland, Va. The Yellow Jackets, ranked No. 6 in this week's D3baseball national poll, took both ends of an ODAC doubleheader to drop Eastern Mennonite to 11-11 overall and 3-6 in the conference.
The Royals return home on Wednesday, although the road doesn't get any easier with a single game against No. 9 Shenandoah.
Randolph-Macon 15, EMU 2
The first half of the game was close, with single runs for the Royals in the fourth and fifth keeping them within 3-2. But everything unraveled in the bottom of the fifth. R-MC scored seven times, including five times with two outs, to blow open a 10-2 lead.
The men didn't have another serious scoring threat after that.
Kyle Salladay (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield), responded to a move to the No. 2 spot in the order by batting 3-4. Patrick Love (Bedford, Va./Staunton River) added a pair of singles.
Josh Sydenstricker (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) was tagged for five runs in 4.0+ innings, falling to 2-1 with his first loss.
Randolph-Macon 10, EMU 3
The Royals started game two on a different note. After a leadoff walk was erased on a double play, Kyle Armstrong (Greenville, Va./Riverheads) doubled. Ryan Hedrick (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby), Adam Marston (Woodstock, Va./Miller School) and Love each followed with an RBI hit, giving EMU their first lead of the day at 3-0.
Randolph-Macon scored once in the bottom of the first, and dropped a three spot to go ahead 4-3 in the third.
EMU couldn't mount another scoring frame while the Yellow Jackets touched home twice each in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
Hedrick finished 2-3 with a walk, scoring once and knocking in another run. Marston also had two hits, one run and one RBI. Joe Hall (Gladys, Va./Rustburg) added a pair of singles.
Jake Brown (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) pitched 5.0 innings and allowed six runs to fall to 1-4.
