Box Score 2 EMU's baseball men had their four-game winning streak snapped by No. 15 Randolph-Macon Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg, as the Yellow Jackets swept an ODAC doubleheader. The Royals make a quick turnaround as they play a rescheduled conference twinbill Sunday afternoon at Emory & Henry at 1:00pm.
Randolph-Macon 24, EMU 3
The game had an ominous start, as leadoff walk turned into a two-run inning for the Yellow Jackets. By the end of the fourth, the visitors had 14 hits and a 10-0 lead.
The Royals took until the fifth to finally solve R-MC starter James Walsh, stringing together three hits to get their first run on a single from Griffin Stanley (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring).
Randolph-Macon squelched any thoughts of a comeback by dropping a 14-spot in the seventh. David Meehan (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) and Joe Hall (Gladys, Va./Rustburg) had RBI singles in the eighth to provide the final score.
EMU's pitching gave up 22 hits with eight walks. The Royals managed 14 of their own, led by Hall's 3-5. Ryan Hedrick (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) had two hits.
Starter Jake Brown (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) gave up 10 runs in 3.0 innings to get the loss. Tristan Childress (Waynesboro, Va./Waynesboro) threw well in relief, giving up one earned run in 3.0. Ryan Tierney (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) struck out two in 2.0 hitless innings.
Randolph-Macon 12, EMU 3
The Yellow Jackets put up four runs in the first inning of the nightcap, including a three-run homerun, and then added one more in the second.
Nic Love (Bedford, Va./Staunton River) had an RBI single in the bottom of the second to get the Royals on the board.
The score stayed at 5-1 until the fifth when R-MC put another four runs up, all of them unearned. The men scored single runs again in the sixth and seventh innings, but they left 12 men on base in the loss.
Stanley batted 3-5 with an RBI out of the leadoff spot. Ian Norris (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) was 2-4 and scored two of EMU's runs. Kyle Armstrong (Greenville, Va./Riverheads) and Justin Rodriguez (Miramar, Fla./Monsignor Edward Pace) each had two hits.
Kyle Johnson (Nathalie, Va./Rustburg) started on the hill and was tagged for five earned runs in 4.0 innings. Each of the three relievers gave up at least one run.
The Royals slide to 7-6 with the loss, including 1-2 in the ODAC.
