Game one was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth, when EMU plated a run without the aid of a hit. Leadoff batter Phillip Jordan (West Point, VA/Christchurch) was hit by a pitch, stole second, was sacrifice to third, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Jonathan Estrada (Miami, FL/Doral Academy).
The Quakers answered in their next at-bat, starting a rally with a two-out walk. Four singles later, GC had a 3-1 lead. Guilford added another run on a sac fly in the eight to push the lead to 4-1 and the game sailed to the bottom of the ninth.
Adam Posey (Poquoson, VA/Poquoson) led off with a single to left, and the comeback had legs. Estrada roped an RBI double and B.J. Mortimer (Mechanicsville, VA/Lee-Davis) followed with a big double off the left field wall to bring in two more runs to tie the game at 4-4.
Both teams had their chances in extra innings. Justin Rodriguez (Miramar, FL/Pace) nearly ended it with the longball in the 11th, but his shot to deep center was caught on the warning track.
