The EMU baseball team played a doubleheader at Mary Washington Friday and left for home without denting home plate, dropping 1-0 and 12-0 decisions to the Eagles.

The opener was classic pitchers' duel, featuring a combined seven hits in the seven innings.  Eastern Mennonite had runners in scoring position in four of the innings, including the bases loaded in the sixth, but couldn't score.

Mary Washington earned a leadoff walk in the bottom of the seventh, and that cost the Royals.  After a sacrifice and groundout, a two-out single to left field chased home the game-winner.

Daniel Stanley (Henrico, VA/Varina) went the distance from the mound and took the loss.  He allowed just four hits but also walked four batters.

Kyle Armstrong (Greenville, VA/Riverheads) reached base twice with a hit and a walk.  Phillip Jordan (West Point, VA/Christchurch) hit a double, and B.J. Mortimer (Mechanicsville, VA/Lee-Davis) had EMU's only other hit.  Ryan McAlister (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) reached twice, once on a walk and once on a catcher's interference.

UMW's offense took off in game two, unloading 12 hits.  The Royals, meanwhile, only got baserunners in the first and second innings.  Three Eagles' pitchers combined to retire the final 16 men as the home team took the big win.

Jordan singled for EMU's only hit.  Jonathan Estrada (Miami, FL/Doral Academy) walked and McAlister was hit by a pitch.

Casey Harlow (Louisa, VA/Louisa County) pitched the first five innings and was tagged for four runs.  Ryan Sanders (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) and Brad Matthias (Swansboro, NC/Swansboro) pitched the sixth inning and gave up the final eight UMW runs.

Eastern Mennonite slides to 2-4 with the losses.  The Royals have their home opener on Sunday, when they host New Jersey City in a single game starting at 1:00pm.
