Box Score Last week EMU dropped a decision at home to Bridgewater College. Today the men hit the road to take on their rivals and didn't fare any better there, scoring just once in a 14-1 loss.
After Bridgewater scored a two-out run in the first, the Royals threatened to take the lead in the second. Beau Banglesdorf (Stafford, VA/Mountain View) led off with a double and Dylan Smith (Sterling, VA/Park View) knocked him in with a single. Jonathan Estrada (Miami, FL/Doral Academy) walked and B.J. Mortimer (Mechanicsville, VA/Lee-Davis) loaded the bases with a bunt single.
But the Eagles turned two when Joshua Martin (Crozet, VA/Western Albemarle) flew out to right field and Smith was thrown out at home. A groundball to second ended the frame as EMU tied the game at 1-1 but left two runners on base.
BC turned on the offense in their next two at-bats, scoring a total of seven runs to blow the lead to 8-1 after three innings.
The Royals got only four more base runners after the second, and never more than one in a frame, as they dropped the season series to their rivals.
The men managed only six hits in the game with just one walk. Banglesdorf finished 2-4 with the lone run while Smith was also 2-4 with the RBI. Mortimer and Ryan McAlister (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) had the only other hits.
Andy Richter (Perkasie, PA/Christopher Dock) made the start and gave up 10 runs in 5.0 innings in getting the loss. Chris DeWald (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) and Daniel Stanley (Henrico, VA/Varina) pitched in relief.
Eastern Mennonite, 10-21, now has a four-game losing streak as they men look to tie last year's win total. Next up is an ODAC twinbill at seventh-place Roanoke on Saturday, with first pitch at noon.
