Box Score Last week when the two teams met in Harrisonburg the Royals left 13 men on base in a 4-2 loss. Wednesday night in Lexington, leaving runners on was not the problem for Eastern Mennonite. Getting them on was, as the men had only nine baserunners and took a second loss to Washington & Lee, 10-2.
While EMU went down in order in their first three at-bats, the Generals got a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first and scored two runs on a two-out single. They got four more in the fourth, taking a 6-0 lead and chasing starter Jason Tate (Herndon, Va./Herndon).
The Royals scored their first run in the fourth with the help of two W&L errors.
After the Generals dropped another four-spot in the fifth to go ahead 10-1, Eastern Mennonite struck a two-out rally in the sixth. Catcher Dylan Smith (Sterling, Va./Park View) rapped a single and then scored when Beau Banglesdorf (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) followed with a double.
But that was it for the scoring as Washington & Lee rolled out with the 10-2 decision.
Eastern Mennonite had six hits, led by Smith who went 3-4. Banglesdorf had the men's only RBI with his double. Jake Norman (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) and Michael Wade (New Hope, Va./Fort Defiance) had the other hits.
Tate lasted three innings, allowing six hits and four walks and taking the loss.
The loss dropped the Royals to 8-22 overall and 2-14 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The men step out of conference play this weekend when they host York in a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is at 1:00pm.
