Box Score On March 25, the Eastern Mennonite baseball team upset top-ranked Shenandoah 4-3 in Harrisonburg. Two-and-a-half weeks later, the Hornets avenged their first loss of the year, holding EMU to one hit and dropped the men by a final of 5-0.
The Royals managed just three baserunners in the loss. Dylan Smith (Sterling, Va./Park View) reached base twice, once on a walk and another time by being hit by a pitch.
Beau Banglesdorf (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) singled behind Smith in the seventh, giving EMU its only hit and best chance to score. A pair of groundouts ended the Royals' rally and they didn't get another man on base against SU's Ben Hendrickson.
The Hornets bunched three of their seven hits in the third, when they took a 2-0 lead. The home team added a single run in the sixth and added two more for insurance in the eighth.
Adam Posey (Poquoson, Va./Poquoson) started and pitched 4-2/3 innings for EMU. He allowed two runs on five hits and took the loss.
Eastern Mennonite falls to 9-23 after the non-conference game. Shenandoah improves to 27-2. The Royals have another non-conference game on Friday, playing Southern Virginia on a neutral field in Covington, Va.
