Just two days removed from a coating of snow in Harrisonburg, the Eastern Mennonite baseball hosted Washington & Lee on Tuesday. The Generals scored four runs off homers while EMU left 13 men on base, suffering a 4-2 defeat to W&L.

The visitors took a quick lead, getting a two-run homerun in the first inning to jump ahead. A solo shot to lead off the fourth made it 3-0.

After leaving five runners on base in the first four innings, the Royals finally broke through. B.J. Mortimer (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) hit a one-out single in the fifth and took second on a groundout. Dylan Smith (Sterling, Va./Park View) followed with a single, bringing Mortimer home.

EMU scored with two away again in the sixth, as Josh Martin (Crozet, Va./Western Albermarle) came home when the Generals committed an error off a ball hit by Adrian Perez (Miami, Fl./Doral Academy).

The men loaded the bases on three walks with two outs in the eighth, but Mortimer flew out to center to leave it a 3-2 ballgame.

Washington & Lee got a bit of insurance in the ninth with another solo homerun, making it 4-2.

The Royals rallied in the their final at-bat as Smith was hit by a pitch with one out and Beau Banglesdorf (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) doubled to put two runners on. But the next two batters couldn't get the ball out of the infield as the tying runs were stranded on base and EMU took the loss.

Freshman Adam Posey (Poquoson, Va./Poquoson) had a solid outting on the mound, striking out seven while pitching the complete game. But three of the eight hits he allowed were homeruns, accounting for all of the runs he gave up.

The Royals out-hit W&L 9-8, led by Smith going 3-4 with an RBI. Ryan McAlister (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) finished 2-4 with a walk.

The loss drops EMU to 8-19 overall and 2-11 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The men travel to Stevenson tomorrow, taking on the Mustangs at 3:30pm.
