Box Score

The Eastern Mennonite baseball team travelled to Lynchburg Saturday to take on the Hornets in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader. The men struggled to get their offense going and were limited to just ten hits over the two games, taking a pair of losses, 6-0 and 7-3.

The Royals missed their opportunities in game one and LC jumped ahead with two runs in the third. Lynchburg added four more in the sixth to go up 6-0.

EMU had plenty of chances early on, leaving a total of nine runners on base in the second through fifth innings.

But the Royals got just one baserunner in the final four frames and took the loss.

Andy Richter (Perkasie, Pa./Christopher Dock) started and pitched into the sixth inning. He was charged with four of the runs and took the loss. Adam Posey (Poquoson, Va./Poquoson) and Logan Toney (Chesterfield, Va./Manchester) each pitched in relief.

Josh Martin (Crozet, Va./Western Albemarle) had two of EMU's four hits. The men left 10 men on base in the shutout.

The Hornets jumped on the board quickly in the second game, plating three in the bottom of the first. But the Royals finally scored in the fifth.

Travis Ebersole (Sarasota, Fl./Sarasota Christian) started the rally with a one-out double. After a walk, Adrian Perez (Miami, Fl./Doral Academy) singled in one run and Ryan McAlister (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) doubled in another. B.J. Mortimer (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) added a sacrifice fly to tie the score at 3-3.

But the Hornets took the lead right back in their next at-bat, getting a two-out RBI single. They added a pair of insurance runs with a walk and homerun in the seventh, producing the final 7-3 score.

EMU had six hits in the loss, including three doubles. Beau Banglesdorf (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) had a pair of hits.

Senior Jason Tate (Herndon, Va./Herndon) pitched seven-plus strong innings, striking out 11 Hornets while allowing nine hits and taking the loss.

The Royals fall to 6-16 with the sweep including 1-8 in the ODAC. The men will try to break their four-game losing streak on Tuesday when they host Bridgewater in a single game. First pitch is at 4:00pm.
