The Eastern Mennonite baseball team got its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference win Sunday afternoon, taking a 7-4 decision at Emory & Henry. The Wasps returned the favor in the nightcap, scoring 12 unanswered runs to beat the Royals 15-12 for their first ODAC win.

EHC touched up starter Jason Tate (Herndon, Va./Herndon) for four runs in the first five innings, taking the lead and chasing Tate.

The Royals scored in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, finally tying the game at 4-4 when Josh Martin (Crozet, Va./Western Albermarle) doubled in an unearned run the eighth.

Chris Harpine (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) led off the top of the ninth with a triple and scored the go-ahead run on a double from Beau Banglesdorf (Stafford, Va./Mountain View). Two more runs scored as EMU went ahead 7-4.

Adam Posey (Poquoson, Va./Poquoson) and Thomas Worley (Prince George, Va./Prince George) combined to strike out the side in the bottom of the frame, preserving the win.

Martin led the 12-hit attack by going 3-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Harpine and Banglesdorf each had a pair of hits with two RBIs. Harpine also scored a pair of runs while Banglesdorf scored once.

Posey took the win as he allowed just one hit in 3-2/3 innings of relief.

Eastern Mennonite jumped ahead 6-2 after two innings of game two. Martin had a two-RBI double in the second. Ryan McAlister (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) added an RBI single before Harpine hit a two-run homer, his second bomb of the year.

The two teams traded runs in the fifth, highlighted by Banglesdorf's third homerun.

After EMU pushed the lead to 9-3 with two more runs in the seventh, the Wasps got their bats going. The home team scored 12 runs in the next two frames, combining 10 hits with three Royal errors to jump ahead 15-9.

McAlister led off the ninth with a single up the middle, triggering a three-hit frame. But the men could only come up with three runs and still came up on the short end of the 15-12 decision.

Six Royals had multiple hits as the team combined for 15 hits. Banglesdorf finished 3-5 with three RBIs and two runs. Harpine was 2-5 with two RBIs and two runs.

B.J. Mortimer (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis), McAlister, Jonathan Estrada (Miami, Fl./Doral Academy) and Martin each had a pair of hits as well.

Andy Richter (Perkasie, Pa./Christopher Dock) started on the mound and lasted 6-1/3 innings, giving up seven runs on six hits and three walks. He also struck out seven but took a no decision.

Posey again pitched in relief and threw 1-1/3 innings before wearing out. He was charged with six runs (four earned) and was charged with the loss, as he took the decision in each game.

Eastern Mennonite is 5-12 after the split and 1-5 in the ODAC. The Royals host Lancaster Bible in a non-conference twinbill Tuesday with first pitch at 2:00pm. The men then take on Bridgewater in a single road game Wednesday afternoon at 4:00pm.
