Box Score The EMU field hockey women dropped a 7-0 decision to ODAC-leading Lynchburg on the road Saturday.
The Hornets, ranked No. 3 in this week's Kookaburra/NFHCA national poll, are 6-0 and have out-scored opponents 38-1 in conference play. The loss drops the Lady Royals into tie for fifth place with a league mark of 4-3.
The women gave up an early goal to LC, then settled down and handled a 17-2 barrage of shots in the first half. Lynchburg did add one more goal shortly before the half, taking a 2-0 edge.
Eastern Mennonite kept the deficit at two for the first 13 minutes of the second before the floodgates opened. The Hornets landed five scores over the final 22 minutes to produce the final margin.
Lynchburg had a 28-6 edge in shots, although it was closer in shots on goal at 13-5. Jenessa Derstine (Harleysville, PA/Christopher Dock) led EMU with three shots.
Goalie Mary Beth Danaher (Matoaca, VA/Matoaca) had five saves while sophomore Mandy Stowers (Powhatan, VA/Powhatan) had one defensive save.
The fifth-place women sit a full game behind Randolph-Macon, Bridgewater and Virginia Wesleyan in the ODAC standings. R-MC closes its season at Virginia Wesleyan while the Eagles finish at Lynchburg.
The Lady Royals play a non-conference date at No. 11 Ursinus on Tuesday before closing the regular season at home against Roanoke on Thursday, Oct. 27. The 7:00pm game is the final ODAC game of the regular season and will finalize the set-up for the six-team conference tourney, which starts on Oct. 29.
