Washington & Lee University now sits sixth overall in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference standings, pending today's results, as the Generals collected a pair of road victories over the Eastern Mennonite University baseball team in the final series for the Royals in 2009.

Game scores were 5-2 (eight innings), and 11-5.

The Royals end the season with a 13-19-1 overall record and a 6-12 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The 13 wins continue a trend over the past three seasons in which the Royals have continually increased their win total. It is also the first time the baseball team has reached 13 wins since the 2005 campaign.

Sophomore outfielder Chris Harpine (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) fell one home run shy of tying Erik Kratz's 2002 record of 14 for a season. Harpine finished the two-game set going 3-for-8 with a run scored and an RBI.

Junior shortstop Aaron Martin (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) launched his fourth home run of the year, a shot that traveled as high into the clear Harrisonburg sky as it did over the left-field fence. Sophomore outfielder Ben Wise (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee) made a stellar catch in game one, robbing Hunter Serenbetz of extra bases and a possible home run. Wise then followed that play with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the score at two all.

The Generals plated three runs in the eighth inning as Drew Dezen delivered the big blow with a two-RBI double to left-center field, scoring Anthony Cardona and Byron Peyster.

Brendan Clark worked a scoreless bottom half of the inning to pick up his third win of the year.

W&L starting pitcher Roger Strong was in control for most of the game as he limited EMU batters to only one run on three hits. Royal starting pitcher Michael Moles (Waynesboro, Va./Waynesboro) was equally as dominate as he pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six batters. Moles' seven inning gem was the third straight for EMU following a pair of outstanding performances on the mound by Ethan Russell (Huntly, Va./Rappahannock) and Bryan Loy (Fairfield, Va./Parry McCluer) during yesterday's double header sweep over Virginia Wesleyan.

Wise went 1-for-3 in game one with an RBI.

In the second game the Royals fell behind 3-0 after the top of the third inning before an RBI sacrifice fly by senior outfielder Derek Butler (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) closed the gap to 3-1.

A two-run sixth inning by Washington & Lee was answered by the home team in the bottom half of the stanza as Martin connected for a three-run home run. Sophomore first baseman Jake Norman (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge), who hit a two-out double earlier in the inning, later scored on a throwing error to account for the fourth run of the inning.

The Generals put the game out of reach in the eighth inning as six runners crossed home plate with four different players registering an RBI in the inning.

Serenbetz went 4-for-4 in game two with three runs scored and three RBI. Terrence McKelvey was 3-for-5 with a run scored while Cardona and Dezen each had two hits, a run scored, and two RBI in four trips to the plate for W&L.

Martin finished the second game going 1-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI.

Norman and Harpine each had a hit and a run scored in four at-bats.
