#14 Lynchburg College moved to 16-6 on the season and a perfect 6-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference following a double header sweep over the Eastern Mennonite University baseball team Sunday afternoon in Lynchburg, Va., at City Stadium, site of the 2009 ODAC Tournament.

Game scores were 5-3 in game one, and 10-4 in game two. The losses drop EMU to 7-14-1 on the year, 2-6 in the conference.

Sophomore outfielder Chris Harpine (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) led the Royals at the dish, going 5-for-8 with a run scored and two RBI. Freshman catcher Dylan Smith (Sterling, Va./Park View) collected three hits in seven trips to the plate with two RBI while junior shortstop Aaron Martin (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in game two.

Junior outfielder Chris Baker (Winchester, Va./John Handley) had another solid day at the dish, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI in game one and now leads the squad with a .378 batting average.

The Hornets were led by Cameron Grant who went 2-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI including a leadoff home run in game two. David Gaines Jr. scored twice in game two while Kyle Bradley had a unblemished 2-for-2 day at the plate in game one, also scoring a pair for LC.

Each team pushed across a run in the third inning of game one with the difference in the contest coming in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two runners on and one out, Jeff Taylor lifted a fly ball to the outfield, allowing Gaines Jr. to score. Chris Colquhoun then crossed home plate on the next play as Matt Painter singled to make the score 4-2, LC.

EMU added its third run of the game in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Baker, scoring sophomore first basman Jake Norman (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge). The home team answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning on an EMU throwing error to go back up by two runs.

The Royals put the tying run on base in the seventh inning with two outs. Robert Garrett was able to retire the final out of the inning before EMU could tie or potentially take the lead as the freshman righthander picked up his second save of the year.

Conner Thompson went five innings to pick up his sixth win of the season.

The Royals offense put up two runs in the top of the first inning of game two on RBI singles by Smith and Martin. Lynchburg cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the inning before pulling ahead for good in the second inning as three Hornet runners crossed home plate. EMU added a run in both the fourth and fifth innings, only to have the home team put up a two-spot in the fifth and four more runs in the sixth to collect the win.

Junior second baseman Cody Davis (Goodview, Va./Staunton River) and sophomore outfielder Ben Wise (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee) each went 1-for-4 in game two with a run scored. Norman finished the two-game set going 4-for-8 with a run scored.

Taylor was 2-for-3 with a run scored in game two for Lynchburg.

EMU will stay on the road for its next contest as the Royals travel to Bridgewater, Va., to take on cross-town rival Bridgewater College on Wednesday, April 1, at 4 p.m.
