Shenandoah exploded for eight runs in the third inning as the Hornets cruised to a 16-3 non-conference win over the Eastern Mennonite University baseball team Tuesday afternoon in Winchester, Va.

The Hornets improve to 17-11 overall and sweep the season series from the Royals after defeating EMU in Harrisonburg in March. The visiting Royals fall to 7-22 on the year and will now host cross-town rival Bridgewater College on Wednesday, April 2, for a 4 p.m., Old Dominion Athletic Conference game.

Senior third baseman Jameson Jarvis (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper Co.) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs as he connected for his third home run of the season in the first inning for EMU. Sophomore shortstop Chris Baker (Winchester, Va./John Handley) was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Greg Van Sickler went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI for the Hornets as he also pitched the complete game for SU, going seven innings and allowing three runs on six hits with a walk and six strike outs. Van Sickler is now 3-2 on the season.

Drue Vernon was 2-for-5 from the dish with a run scored and three RBIs as Scott Van Dusseldorp scored twice and had a pair of RBIs in two trips to the plate.

EMU struck first in the first inning with the Jarvis home run but quickly saw their lead dissipate as the Hornets scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning. The home team struck for another run in the second before putting up an eight-spot on the board in the third with Vernon notching two RBIs in the inning as the Hornets had five hits with one EMU error.

Sophomore Zach Polloni (Hatfield, Pa./Christopher Dock) went 1-for-3 with a run scored for EMU.
