Lynchburg Takes Double Header Over EMU

Ronnie LaBrie had a solo home run in game one and a had a triple in game two as the Lynchburg College Hornets leave Harrisonburg, Va., with a conference sweep over the Eastern Mennonite University baseball team Saturday afternoon.
Lynchburg improves to 20-7 overall and 9-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference while EMU drops to 7-21 on the year and 3-7 in the conference.
Joe Delvin got just enough run support in game one to pick up the 3-1 win as he allowed six hits and one run, while striking out seven. EMU starting pitcher
Jesse Baker (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) had another strong outing for the Royals as he allowed three runs on six hits with a walk and a strikeout in the complete game effort.
LeBrie was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs, including a RBI single to rightfield in the first inning.
EMU tied the game at one in the bottom half of the inning as sophomore
Cody Davis (Goodview, Va./Staunton River) came around to score after sophomore shortstop
Chris Baker (Winchester, Va./John Handley) moved him over on a sacrifice bunt with freshman outfielder
Chris Harpine (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) driving him in with an RBI double.
The game remained tied until the top of the sixth when Lynchburg pushed two across on the LaBrie home run.
Baker ended up going 2-for-3 from the plate for EMU.
In the second game, LaBrie again helped propel the Hornets to the 6-4 win as he went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI with third baseman Jeff Talyor recording three hits in five trips to the plate.
Harpine had a pair of RBIs for EMU while senior
Jameson Jarvis (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper Co.) going 2-for-5. Davis and Baker each had an RBI and a run scored in the loss.
EMU held a 3-0 after the bottom of the third inning as Davis doubled home Harpine on a two base hit down the left-field line. Baker and Harpine followed with back-to-back RBI singles before LC starting pitcher D.W. Moore settled down and got the final out of the inning.
Lynchburg responded in the top half of the fourth with a run scored and then put up their own three spot in the sixth inning as David Gaines, Chris Colquhoun, and Kyle Bradley each had RBI singles in the inning for the Hornets.
The visiting Hornets put two more runs on the board in the seventh and eighth innings with EMU mounting a comeback attempt in the ninth. With the bases loaded, Harpine worked a walk to bring home the fourth run of the game for EMU. Jared Millner, pitching in relief of Jonathan Nichols, closed out the win for LC with a strike out to pick up the save.

Ben Wise (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee) each had a hit and scored a run in four trips the plate.
EMU will head on the road for their next game on Tuesday, April 1, as they travel north on Interstate 81, to take on the Hornets of Shenandoah University for a 6 p.m., non-conference game.
