ODAC Sweep Over Emory & Henry Moves Royals to 3-4 in Conference

Sophomore first baseman Jeff Walker (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) went a combined 6-for-7 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs as the Eastern Mennonite University baseball team moved to 3-4 in the conference with a pair of wins over Emory & Henry College Saturday afternoon.

EMU (7-16) will now host Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday, March 25, for a 3 p.m., conference game. Emory & Henry College falls to 5-18 overall and 0-9 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Walker went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in game one while sophomore shortstop Chris Baker (Winchester, Va./John Handley) was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Starting pitcher Jesse Baker (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) went six innings, striking out four while allowing three runs as freshman left hander Eli Detweiler (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock) pitched an inning in relief to pick up his first save of the season.

Seth Hyder had a pair of singles and a run scored for Emory & Henry in game one.

EMU scored five of their six runs in the second inning as a pair of Emory & Henry errors allowed the Royals to go up 5-2. Baker held the Wasp bats at bay through the next four innings to pick up the win.

Sophomore second baseman Cody Davis (Goodview, Va./Staunton River) went 2-for-4 with a run scored in game one.

In the second game the Royals offense exploded for five runs in the third and fourth innings as sophomore designated hitter Zach Polloni (Hatfield, Pa./Christopher Dock) and freshman catcher Chris Handler (Mesa, Ariz./Skyline) each drove in three runs while senior third baseman Jameson Jarvis (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper Co.) and freshman outfielder Chris Harpine (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) each had three hits in four trips to the plate.

Harpine scored four runs in the game with Jarvis coming around three times for EMU as freshman right hander Michael Moles (Waynesboro, Va./Stuarts Draft) pitched seven innings, allowing five hits and two runs, while striking out seven for his first collegiate win. Freshman Ethan Russell (Huntley, Va./Rappahannock) pitched two scoreless innings in relief to close out the game.

Codie Mitchell had two hits in three trips to the dish for Emory & Henry with a run scored in game two. Bailey Hansil pitched two innings in relief, striking out three.
