Randolph-Macon Gets ODAC Win Over EMU Baseball

Randolph-Macon College scored three runs in four different innings as they cruised to a 15-2 conference win over the Eastern Mennonite University baseball team Wednesday afternoon in Ashland, Va.
RMC improves to 12-7 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference while EMU falls to 5-16 on the year and 1-4 in the conference.
Sophomore second baseman
Cody Davis (Goodview, Va./Staunton River) went 1-for-4 with a run scored while freshman outfielder
Chris Harpine (Mesa, Ariz./Skyline) went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
EMU opened with two runs in the top of the first inning as Harpine drove in Davis with an RBI double and then came around to score on a Randolph-Macon error.
The Yellow Jackets tied the game and went ahead by one in the bottom half of the frame as Mike Wallace and JC Conway each had RBI singles in the inning. Randolph-Macon added two more runs in the third inning as Wallace drove in Charlie Hartt with a two-run home run.
The home team added a single run in the fourth followed by three runs in the fifth, sixth, and eighth innings with Wallace finishing the game going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs.
Conway had two hits in three trips to the plate with two RBIs for RMC while Kurt Breitmeyer picked up the win, going five innings while allowing only two runs on three hits with four strike outs. Three relievers combined to hold the Royals scoreless through the next four innings.
Freshman
Ben Wise (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee) and
Jake Norman (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) each had a hit in three at-bats for EMU.
The Royals will look to rebound from this loss as they host the Wasps of Emory & Henry College on Saturday, March 22, for a 12 p.m., double header.
