Shenandoah University plated four runs in the third inning and another three runs in the fourth in route to a 10-1 non-conference win over the Eastern Mennonite University baseball team Monday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va.

The Hornets improve their record to an even .500, at 10-10 overall, while the Royals fall to 5-15 on the season.

Sophomore first baseman Jeff Walker (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) hit his second home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth inning. Senior third baseman Jameson Jarvis (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper) and sophomore second baseman Cody Davis (Goodview, Va./Staunton River) each had a double in four trips to the plate for EMU.

Kyle Smallwood, Jesse Henry, and Kevin Brashears each had two RBIs for the Hornets with pitcher Scott Van Dusselorp going 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Van Dusselorp held the Royals to only four hits through eight innings of work to pick up his first win of the season. Drew Dobbins scattered two hits in the final inning to close out the win for Shenandoah while striking out two.

Freshman south paw Stewart Green (Raphine, Va./Riverheads) pitched 6 1/3 innings in relief of starter Ethan Russell (Huntley, Va./Rappahannock) and allowed only five hits, three runs, one earned, while striking out four.

SU struck for a run in the top of the first inning and added two more in the second to quickly pull ahead 3-0. The Hornets continued to find the outfield gap in the third and fourth innings as they totalled all 10 runs before the sixth inning of the game.

The Royals will now travel to Ashland, Va., for an ODAC game against the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon on Wednesday, March 19, at 3 p.m.
