Senior
Jameson Jarvis (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper) and freshman
Chris Harpine (Meza, Ariz./Skyline) each had a home run against Virginia Wesleyan but the Marlins were able to take both games of a conference double header against Eastern Mennonite University Saturday afternoon.
Virginia Wesleyan improves to 13-4-1 overall and 4-2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference while EMU drops to 5-14 on the year and 1-4 in the conference.
Harpine hit his third home run of the season in the first game against VWC and had two RBIs while sophomore second baseman
Cody Davis (Goodview, Va./Staunton River) went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Matt Sadin had two hits in four trips to the plate with three RBIs in game one with Brian Schweers going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Marlin starting pitcher Jesse Freeman went the distance and allowed only two runs on five hits with one walk and five strike outs to pick up the win.
In game two the Royals tied the game at one all in the top of the sixth inning as Jarvis connected for his second round tripper of the season off of starting pitcher Gary Bulman. Virginia Wesleyan pushed a run across in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Phil Cadle and then scored another four runs in the bottom of the eighth to pick up the win.
The home run by Jarvis was the only blemish in an otherwise stellar pitching performance by Bulman who went seven innings, allowing three hits and one run, with one walk and 12 strike outs. EMU starting pitcher
Michael Moles (Waynesboro, Va./Waynesboro) gave up only four earned runs in six innings of work with five strike outs.
Ozz Dhramapitasook went 4-for-4 in game two with a run scored and an RBI for VWC.
The Royals will take on the Hornets of Shenandoah University for a single nine inning game on Monday, March 17, at 3 p.m.
