Harpine and Jarvis Hit Back-to-Back Home Runs in 10-4 Loss to Elizabethtown

The Eastern Mennonite University baseball team dropped is second game of the Shenandoah Classic to Elizabethtown College, 10-4, Sunday afternoon in Winchester, Va.
The Blue Jays improve to 2-0 overall this season while EMU falls to 0-7 on the year.
Senior third baseman
Jameson Jarvis (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper Co.) had another strong day at the dish, going 4-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. In the Shenandoah Classic, Jarvis had six hits in nine trips to the plate with two runs scored and three RBIs. Jarvis and freshman outfielder
Chris Hapine (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Freshman left hander
Ethan Russell (Huntley, Va./Rappahannock) pitched an inning of scoreless relief for EMU.
Adam Sheilby had a big day at the plate for Elizabethtown as the junior left fielder went 4-for-6 with two runs and six RBIs with starting pitcher Matt Kutz pitching six innings, allowing six hits, three runs, and striking out four to pick up the win.
The Royals trailed 4-3 heading into the top of the seventh inning. With the bases loaded Sheilby stepped up to the dish and delievered a one-out grand slam home run that put the Blue Jays ahead by five. Elizabethtown, which had beat Shenandoah a day earlier, then pushed two more runs across in the top of the eighth inning to ice the win. Three Blue Jay pitchers combined to hold the Royals to only one run and five hits over the final three innings in relief of Kutz.

EMU will now head into the spring break portion of their schedule as the Royals travel down to Sarasota, Fla., to compete against Bluffton University, Goshen College, and Messiah College in the annual Sarasota Spring Classic. The first game is scheduled for Saturday, March 1, at 12 p.m., against Goshen.
