Royals Fall in Baseball Double Header Against Shenandoah

The Eastern Mennonite University baseball team was swept in a non-conference double header on the EMU baseball field by Shenandoah University on Tuesday, April 3. The Royals are now 6-21 overall on the season while Shenandoah improves its record to 18-9.

Scott Lambert and David Jenkins each drove in four runs for the Hornets in game one with designated hitter Adam Kessel going 2-for-4 from the plate with two runs scored and three RBIs. First baseman Adam Duckett also finished the game with two hits in three trips to the plate with an RBI for SU.

Shenandoah starting pitcher Rhys Wolford pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on eight hits over seven innings to pick up the 14-2 win.

Centerfielder Brandon Zollman (Lexington, Va.) and right fielder Zach Polloni (Hatfield, Pa.) each went 2-for-3 at the plate for EMU in the first game while senior second baseman Zach Hawke (Salisbury, Md.) going 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.

Jenkins and centerfielder Ryan Anderson paced the Hornets in game two as they combined to go 4-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBIs as Shenandoah finished out the sweep with an 8-3 win.

Third baseman Scott Van Dusseldorp was 3-for-4 with an RBI for SU with pitcher Colin Michael going 5 1/3 innings for the win.

Zollman added another two hits and an RBI on the day to finish the series going 4-for-7 while leftfielder Andrew Pittman (Culpeper, Va.) had another two hits for EMU.

First baseman Chad Johns (Waynesboro, Va.) recorded two hits in three trips to the plate with a run scored for the Royals.

EMU will return to the diamond on Wednesday, April 4, as they travel south down Route 42 to take on the Eagles of Bridgewater College in a single game beginning at 4 p.m.
