Sophomore catcher Chad Lang (Front Royal, Va.) belted a two-run double, scoring senior Chad Johns (Waynesboro, Va.) and junior Jameson Jarvis (Culpeper, Va.) in the bottom of the eighth while senior Brandon Zollman (Lexington, Va.) struck-out the side in the top half of the ninth to close out the 9-8 win for Eastern Mennonite.

The Royals improve to 5-15 overall on the season and gain their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory (1-4) while Randolph-Macon drops to 11-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

Jarvis had a big day at the plate for EMU, going 4-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs while senior second baseman Zach Hawke (Salisbury, Md.) had a three-hit day including three runs scored and an RBI.

Zollman went 1-for-4 at the dish for EMU with two runs scored.

The Royals broke open a four all tie in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI triple from Hawke, who later came into score on a single by Jarvis. RMC tied the game back up in the top of the fifth and both teams again exchanged leads before heading into the bottom of the eighth.

With the score eight all EMU had two runners on with two outs before Lang promptly laced a double, scoring both to give the Royals a slim 9-8 lead.

Zollman came in the top of the ninth, relieving pitcher Matthew Ramey (Stuarts Draft, Va.) and struck out the side including RMC designated hitter Charlie Hartt who had already connected for two home runs against EMU.

Hartt led the Yellow Jackets at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two home runs and three runs scored while Joey Crawford had two hits in three trips including an RBI.

Ramey pitched 5 2/3 innings of relief for EMU, allowing three runs, one earned on three hits with two walks and four strike outs to pick up the win.

Leftfielder Andrew Pittman (Culpeper, Va.) was 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.

EMU will return to the diamond on Saturday, March 24, as they host Virginia Wesleyan for a 12 p.m. double-header.
