Guilford Tops EMU 21-3 and 21-12 in Baseball

Guilford College smacked 44 hits for 42 total runs while recording 21-3 and 21-12 victories over Eastern Mennonite University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference baseball games on Saturday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C.
Guilford improved to 22-14 overall and 9-7 in the ODAC. EMU fell to 6-25 for the season and 2-14 in the ODAC.
Junior Dave Whigham (Ocean City, Md.) improved to 7-2 in game one with three runs allowed in six innings of work with six strikeouts and seven hits. Freshman Michael Chrisman (Luray, Va.) took the loss for the Royals after allowing 11 runs, seven earned, in four and two-thirds innings.
Senior first baseman Rob Bittner (Wilmington, Del.) went 3-for-4 with six RBis and four runs scored. Junior short stop Ricky Seabolt (Greensboro, N.C.) was 4-for-4 with three runs scored in the lead-off spot. Junior third baseman Mike Chelenza (Mebane, N.C.) was 3-for-5 with four RBIs, two runs scored, and a home run.
For the Royals, junior center fielder Brandon Zollman (Lexington, Va.) and senior third baseman Michael Kniss (Chicago, Ill.) each had two his. Sophomore second baseman Jameson Jarvis (Culpeper, Va.) hit a two-run home run.
In game two, sophomore Scottie Wilcox (Boone, N.C.) earned the win with one unearned run allowed in three innings of relief. Senior Drew Cobb (Staunton, Va.) took the loss with eight runs allowed in three and one-third innings of work.
Bittner was 4-for-6 with five RBIs and three runs scored for the Quakers. Seabolt was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Senior designated hitter Jeff Arzonico (Norcross, Ga.) was 3-for-6 with three RBIs and a run scored.
Jarvis was 2-for-5 with three runs scored and his second home run of the day and 10th of the season. Freshman third baseman Jeff Gingrich (Goshen, Ind.) was 4-for-5 with two runs scored. Sophomore short stop Zachary Hawke (Salisbury, Md.) was 2-for-6 with three RBIs and a run. Senior Kenny Riley (Lancaster, Pa.) was 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Zollman was 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
EMU will return to action on Tuesday with a 1:30 p.m. home doubleheader against Columbia Union.
