Shenandoah Pounds EMU 20-11 in Baseball

Junior outfielder Ryan Anderson had four hits, including a three-run home run, and drove in seven runs in leading Shenandoah University to a 20-11 victory over Eastern Mennonite University in a non-conference baseball match-up on Thursday in Harrisonburg, Va.

SU (19-9) and EMU (4-19) combined for 31 runs, 32 hits, and 12 errors in the game. The Hornets took the early lead in the game, taking a commanding 12-2 edge after two and a half innings. Trailing 16-5 after five and a half, the Royals got two runs in the sixth and four in the seventh to close within 16-11, but the Hornets put the game away with four of their own in the eighth.

Freshman Matthew Davis (Jamesville, N.Y.) earned the victory for Shenandoah. The southpaw started and went seven innings, allowing seven runs, four of which were earned, on 10 hits. He walked four and struck out seven.

Freshman Andy Fainter (Buena Vista, Va.), making his third collegiate start, last just one and one-third innings. He allowed 10 runs, eight earned, on six hits and walked four. Four different pitchers worked in relief for EMU.

Anderson singled, doubled twice, and homered for the Hornets, who also defeated EMU 5-1 earlier this season in Winchester. Senior designated hitter Adam Kuchemba (Plains, Pa.) had three hits, including a home run, while also scoring four times and driving in three. Freshman catcher Scott Lambert (Chantilly, Va.) had three hits, scored twice, and drive in two. Junior first baseman Adam Duckett (Broad Run, Va.) had three hits, including a double, and had three RBIs. Senior outfielder Matt McCormick (Glen Burnie, Md.) added a two-run home run.

Sophomore short stop Zachary Hawke (Salisbury, Md.) was 4-for-6 with two doubles, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Freshman catcher Andrew Pittman (Culpeper, Va.) had three hits, including two doubles, and scored four times. Freshman second baseman Derek Butler (Charlottesville, Va.) and senior third baseman Michael Kniss (Chicago, Ill.) each had three hits, while sophomore Jameson Jarvis (Culpeper, Va.) was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

EMU will return to home ODAC action on Saturday with a noon doubleheader against Emory & Henry College.
