EMU Baseball Falls at Shenandoah 5-1

Matt Davis and Burgess combined to limit Eastern Mennonite University to one run on six hits as Shenandoah University won 5-1 in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon in Winchester, Va.
Freshman southpaw Matthew Davis (Jamesville, N.Y.) got his first career win for SU (5-1) after tossing five innings, allowing one run. Junior Jason Burgess (Severn, Md.) earned the save after limiting the Royals to one hit in four innings.
Junior Brandon Zollman (Lexington, Va.) started for EMU (3-3) and took the loss, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out seven.
Junior left fielder Ryan Anderson (Winchester, Va.) led the Hornets going 2-for-4 with a run scored and two runs driven in. Junior third baseman David Jenkins (Front Royal, Va.) was 2-for-5 and scored twice. Junior catcher Steven Todd (Hillsboro, Va.) went 2-for-4 with a home run.
Sophomore short stop Zachary Hawke (Salisbury, Md.) went 2-for-4 for the Royals. Senior third baseman Michael Kniss (Chicago, Ill.) went 1-for-3 and scored the lone EMU run on a wild pitch.
EMU will have off until Saturday when it begins play in the 2006 EMU Sarasota Spring Classic in Sarasota Fla. The Royals open up with Cedarville at 12:30 p.m. and Trinity International at 6:30 p.m.
