EMU upsets #1 seed Bridgewater in 2002 ODAC Tournament
Salem, Va. - The top-seeded Bridgewater College Eagles fell to number four-seeded Eastern Mennonite Thursday afternoon in the first game of the 2002 Old Domninion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Baseball Tournament held at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium in Salem, Virginia.
EMU catcher Erik Kratz had a huge day for the Royals as he batted for the cycle to give himself a league-leading .504 average on the year and an astounding 1.015 slugging percentage. The senior from Telford, Pennsylvania hit his first triple, 14th homerun and 25th double of the season. Kratz also had five RBI and four runs scored on the afternoon. Teammate Casey Severs also had a big day for the Royals batting a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, triple and four runs batted in.
For the Eagles, shortstop Ryan McQueen was 2-for-5 with two RBI while first baseman J.R. Estes hit 2-for-3 with an RBI. Third baseman Todd Lewis was 2-for-4 on the day with a run scored for Bridgewater.
Royal pitcher T.J. Frazier picked up his seventh win of the season as he gave up just one earned run in six innings pitched. He also had four strikeouts on the afternoon. BC's Dan Proctor took the loss for the Eagles as he gave up three earned runs on eight hits in just two and 2/3 innings.
Bridgewater will now face the loser of the Guilford/Virginia Wesleyan game tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm. The Royals will await the winner of that same game and will face off tomorrow at noon in the double elimination tournament.
