JACKSON, MS.- The Royals men's cross country team wrapped up the 2024 season on Saturday, taking on the field at the 2024 NCAA South Region Championships.
Sophomore, and local runner,
Charlie O'Neil was the top finisher for the Royals, breaking the tape in 123rd place.
Fellow ODAC school Lynchburg took home the team title with 51 points while Chasen Hunt of Lynchburg won the individual region title, crossing the finish line in 24:29.62.

Highlights – Men's 8k
- O'Neil was the top scorer for EMU, finishing the course with a time of 30:16.90.
- Eight spots behind O'Neil was Will Bartel. He crossed the finish line in 131st place with a time of 30:53.60.
- Running close together was EMU's next two finishers, Caleb Metzler and Luke Buckwalter. Metzler completed the course with a time of 31:14.30, which earned him 135th place. Just two place behind him, in 137th, was Buckwalter with a time of 31:33.95.
- Rounding out the scoring for the Royals was Ethan Kanagy in 146th place at 32:57.49. Two spots behind him was Jacob Gerlach in 149th place, EMU's final runner.
- Senior Bellamy Immanuel, who was running in his final collegiate race, was 12th at the 5k split, but was unable to complete the course.
What's Next
This wraps up the 2024 cross country season for the Royals. The XC team will now focus their attention on the indoor track & field season, which kicks off on Dec. 5 and 6 at the Liberty Kickoff.
