Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. – It looked like overtime.
With just seconds before free field hockey, EMU was able to punch in a goal and take a 3-2 lead, which proved just enough as the Royals downed Goucher in a midweek contest.
Records: EMU 5-1, 0-0 ODAC | Goucher 1-4, 0-0 Landmark
Highlights
- First quarter – EMU's offense came out firing, peppering the Goucher keeper with shots. Juliana Ghally, Brandy Troutman and Kate Landis combined for six shots in the opening period, but none of them were able to find the back of the cage and the match stayed scoreless after one.
- 18' – EMU got on the board less than three minutes into the second quarter. Off a penalty corner, Elizabeth Longacre played a pass into Troutman, who dribbled just inside EMU's offensive circle and blasted a shot past the Gopher keeper, giving the Royals a 1-0 lead.
- 24' – The Gophers tied things six minutes later after a scrum in front of the Royals cage ended with the ball popping out and trickling past Marie Wilson for the goal.
- 30' – Wilson picked up her first save of the game just before halftime, stopping a shot by Rylie Belauskas to keep things tied at the half.
- 39' – 10 minutes into the third quarter, the Gophers took the lead when Zoe Mikles took a shot from just around the top of the offensive circle and got it past Wilson, putting Goucher on top 2-1.
- 41' – That lead was short lived as EMU was able to tie things up two minutes later. Cassidy Armstrong played a pass into Ghally who dribbled and used her backhand to put it past the Gopher keeper.
- 60' – With the clock ticking down and scoreless fourth quarter up to that point, it looked like overtime was in the cards. But Morgan Leslie, who had been held to just one shot on the night, took a pass from Troutman and put it past the keeper for the go-ahead goal. The Royals defense was able to run out the final 40 seconds to secure the victory.

Postgame Words From Coach Kishorn
I am very proud of our team for showing great resilience and coming up with the win against a scrappy team. We took advantage of offensive corner opportunities and fought to put the ball in the cage. The team had to push themselves to secure the win late in the game, and it's that push that will help get us ready for the games to come.
