Box Score The field hockey team's season came to a close Thursday night at Lynchburg where the defending ODAC champions knocked off the Royals 7-0. Considering the limited roster of just 13 players in Coach E.A. Jackson's first year, the women showed marked improvement over the course of the season, leaving the hope of a promising direction for the rebuilding program.
The women withstood a barrage of shots from the nation's 14th-ranked team over the opening minutes before giving up goals in the 14th and 15th minutes. They trailed 3-0 at halftime before the Hornets scored the rest of their goals in the second.
Freshman Kelsey Troyer (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) made 13 saves in between the pipes, meaning she hit double digit saves in eight of the nine games she started.
Emily Augsburger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) had the Royals' only shot on goal. Mikayla Martin (Colorado Springs, Colo./Lewis Palmer) attempted a pair of shots while Lorraine Armstrong (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) also had one.
Eastern Mennonite loses two seniors from this year's squad, defender Brianna Kauffman (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock) and midfielder Melissa Cox (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield). The Royals close with a record of 3-14 overall and 0-7 in the ODAC.
