Box Score 2 The EMU baseball team continues to show off their bats to the home crowd, as they picked up a pair of wins from Juniata Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg. EMU 12, Juniata 8
The first game of the seven-inning doubleheader started ominously, as the visiting Eagles took the lead with a two-run homerun in their first at-bat of the season. The Royals scored a run in the second, but still trailed 6-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth.
A sacrifice fly and an infield single brought in two unearned runs, and that got the men going. In the fifth, 12 men went to the plate as the Royals combined four hits with four walks to score six runs and jump ahead 9-7.
Juniata scored a single run in the top of the sixth to get within one, but Adam Posey (Poquoson, Va./Poquoson) launched a three-run homer to right field to produce the final 12-8 margin. It was the first homerun of the senior's career.
Despite being out-hit 15-13, the Royals drew six walks while not issuing any of their own. Posey finished 3-4 with six RBIs and two runs. Justin Rodriguez (Miami, Fl./Monsignor Edward Pace) was also 3-4 and scored four runs. Brandon Carroll (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) was just as effective, also going 3-4 with three runs and an RBI.
Posey started on the hill and earned the win to improve to 2-0. He gave up seven runs in five innings. Kyle Salladay (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) earned a save with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
EMU 15, Juniata 1
The offense didn't miss a beat in the nightcap, rapping out 16 hits with eight walks. The Royals led 4-0 after two innings, and then blew the game open with six runs in the third. They scored all of their runs in the first five innings.
Jonathan Estrada (Miami, Fl./Doral) reached base all three of his trips to the plate, scored twice and had four RBIs. Posey was 1-2 with two walks and three runs scored. Ryan McAlister (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) was 2-3 with a walk, along with two runs and two RBIs.
Ryan Henschel (New Market, Va./Stonewall) improved to 1-0 by allowing just four hits and one run in five innings of work. Three EMU relievers didn't allow a hit over the final two frames.
The Royals are now 4-1 as they prepare for Mount St. Vincent on Sunday.
