Box Score 2 The EMU volleyball men wrapped up a disappointing road trip on Saturday, dropping matches to Thiel and Mount St. Joseph in Greenville, Pa. On a four-game losing skid, the Royals slip to 4-7 overall and 0-2 in the Continental Volleyball Conference.
Thiel 3, EMU 1
The men started with an 11:00am CVC match against Thiel, and the host Tomcats quickly won game one, 25-19. Eastern Mennonite regrouped for game and took Thiel out of their rhythm for a 25-20 win.
But the Tomcats had the final say, taking 25-22 and 25-14 wins to close the match.
Quentin Moore (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) was the main offensive threat, pounding out 20 kills to go with 10 digs. Matt Dolan (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) put up 46 set assists. The middles, Kyle Storc (Columbus, Oh./Bishop Watterson) and Garrett Delph (Berryville, Va./Leesburg Christian) each had four blocks. Zach Guiciardi (Creighton, Pa./Deer Lakes) had a match high 12 digs.
Mount Saint Joseph 3, EMU 2
The men then tangled with CVC West team, Mount Saint Joseph, and the two put up an epic battle. The Royals squeaked a 25-23 win in game one, before the Lions erupted to a 25-13 win in game two.
Eastern Mennonite went back up with a 25-22 win in game three, but the momentum wouldn't carry. The Lions forced a game five with a 25-22 decision, and then stole the match, 15-11.
Moore again led the attack with 18 kills and just five hitting errors. Jesse Reist added 13 kills. Dolan had 41 assists.
Storc racked up seven blocks while Dolan had five. Marc Lovell (Newport News, Va./Menchville) led the back row with 10 digs.
The Royals were playing without Scott Brigham (Montpelier, Va./Patrick Henry) (back) all weekend, who is second on the team with 2.84 kills.
EMU needs to snap their losing streak next weekend when they host a pair of conference matches. Friday night No. 14 Stevenson comes to Harrisonburg, followed by Cairn on Saturday afternoon.
