Box Score The Eastern Mennonite soccer men picked up their first ODAC win of the season Wednesday night, getting a pair of goals from Parker Leap (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) to beat Emory & Henry 2-0 on a wet night in Harrisonburg.
The Royals dominated the first half with a number of good looks, but didn't crack the scoring column until the 38th minute. Brendan Jeschke (Vienna, Va./James Madison) fired in a cross which Leap headed in for his first goal of the season.
Christian Rhine (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) nearly added some insurance in the 51st minute, but his shot hit off the post. Caleb Golladay (Mt. Jackson, Va./Stonewall Jackson) fired a kick off the rebound, but it was deflected out.
Finally Leap added the second goal on another breakaway in the 80th minute. Mark Mast (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) set him up with the assist as Leap put the game out of reach.
The Royals had a comfortable 26-13 edge in shots. Rhine had seven shots including three on goal while Mast and Leap each had two on goal. Backup keeper Peter Dutcher (Sugarcreek, Ohio/Central Christian) started for EMU and made seven saves to earn a shutout in his first collegiate start.
The win was not only the first conference win of the year for the men, but it also snapped a seven-game skid. Now 3-9 overall and 1-5 in the ODAC, the Royals stay home to host Hampden-Sydney on Saturday at 4:00pm. The game is part of Homecoming at Eastern Mennonite.
