Eastern Mennonite's field hockey women had a few chances against No. 19 Lynchburg Wednesday night at home, but couldn't cash in and came up short, 3-0.

After a brief pre-game ceremony honoring Coach Brenda Bechler for her recent 100th victory, the game got underway.

Lynchburg got on the board first in the ninth minute, knocking in a goal after a penalty corner.  The Lady Royals nearly equalized nine minutes later, when Jessica Blanks (Richmond, VA/Manchester) had a shot saved by the LC goalie and Jenessa Derstine (Harleysville, PA/Christopher Dock) missed a weak side shot wide left.

The Hornets turned right around to score again in the 21st minute and go up 2-0.

As time ran out in the first half, EMU earned a corner.  Even after earning a second corner, the women couldn't get off a clean shot and went into halftime down by two.

The Lady Royals earned a few more corners in the second, but had all their shots either saved or blocked.  LC then added one more in the 59th minute for their final tally.

Lynchburg finished with a 30-8 edge in shots, including 17-2 on goal.  Sam Ferrier (Sellersville, PA/Christopher Dock) had 14 saves in the loss.

Blanks and Adriana Santiago (Souderton, PA/Christopher Dock) each had two shots with one on goal.

The loss is the first in conference play for the Lady Royals, who fall to 1-1 in the ODAC and 2-5 overall.  They have an important home game against last year's ODAC runner-up, Randolph-Macon, Saturday at 1:00pm.
