SALEM, Va. - The Royals spent the chilly Saturday in Virginia's Championship City, heading south to Salem to take on Roanoke.
The Maroons were able to get two goals in the first quarter, the second of which turned out to be the game winner, as RC picked up a 5-1 win over EMU.

Highlights
- Roanoke picked up their first shot on goal just 44 seconds into the game, but it was stopped by Renata Videki. 14 seconds later, however, the Maroons were able to find the back of the cage for a 1-0 lead. Videki added three more saves over the next 12 minutes, but Roanoke added to their lead with a goal in the 13th minute, for a 2-0 lead after one.
- In the second, just like the first, RC added their third goal just 47 seconds into the frame, but Videki continued to be strong, tallying four more saves, along with a defensive save from Shay Gough, to trail just 3-1 at the half.
- EMU's offense got going in the third quarter, with Camryn Lohr picking up three shots, one of which was on goal but saved by the Roanoke keeper. But in the 42nd minute, after a Roanoke foul in the box, EMU had their seventh penalty corner of the game. After Aarin McIntosh sent it in to Joni Wiederman, Wiederman sent it to Lohr who sent it right back to Wiederman. She then sent it toward the goal, finding the stick of Kristen Andersen who beat the Maroons keeper for her first goal of the season and cutting RC's lead to 3-1. But with just 46 seconds left in the quarter, Roanoke was able to tack on one more and re-extend their lead back to three.
- The Maroons put one more on the board in the fourth and held EMU to just one shot from Wiederman, which was blocked, to wrap up the win.
