Royals Score Season-High Three Goals In Win Over Wasps

Box Score

After scoring just one goal in their first seven games, the Royals are finding their offensive groove. The Eastern Mennonite soccer men have now scored six goals in their last three games, including three Saturday night at Emory & Henry, a 3-1 conference win over the Wasps.

Bryce Shank (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) got things going early, as he scored an unassisted goal just 8:39 in. Mitchell Leap (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) made it 2-0 in the 31st minute, scoring with an assist from fellow captain Muoka Musau (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge).

The Royals padded their two-goal lead in the 83rd minute when Shank put in his second of the game.

Emory & Henry got one score back a minute later, but could get no more as EMU got its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference win, 3-1.

Eastern Mennonite had a slight edge in shots, 13-11. The men also had a 5-2 lead in corner kicks and more offsides, 4-2.

Freshman keeper Ryan Baker (Virginia Beach, Va./Menchville) continued to grow into his position, making six saves.

For the Royals, it was their first win in three weeks, a 1-0 triumph over Frostburg State on Sept. 4. EMU is now 2-7-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the ODAC. Eastern Mennonite hopes to continue its offensive revitalization when the men host two-time defending national champion Messiah College. The game on Wednesday, Sept. 29, starts at 7:00pm in Harrisonburg.
