Eastern Mennonite University senior pitcher Jamie Fraysher (Waterford, Va./Loudoun Valley) pitched a combined 10 2/3 innings against Messiah College, shutting down the Falcons in game two, as EMU split a non-conference double header with Messiah Thursday afternoon.

Messiah won game one 2-1 with EMU taking game two, 4-0. Messiah now stands at 20-4 overall on the year while EMU is now 9-13.

Fraysher pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief in game one, allowing one unearned run on two hits with one walk. EMU starting pitcher Nicole Wade (Madison Heights, Va./Liberty Christian) went four strong innings in the circle, scattering five hits while allowing only one unearned run. Both Wade and Fraysher each struck out three Falcon batters.

Even with a solid combined pitching effort on the visiting team's side, the Lady Royals were unable to get past Messiah starter Jessica Rhodes. The freshman from Dillsburg, Pa., pitched a complete game for Messiah, allowing only two hits and one unearned run while striking out 16. Rhodes now stands at 12-1 on the year with the win.

Abi Buchler was the hitting star for the home team, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Rhodes had two hits in three at-bats.

In game two it was the Lady Royals' turn to use a dominate performance in the circle to their advantage. Fraysher went seven innings, holding the home team to only three hits and one walk, while striking out two.

The EMU offense knocked out six hits in the second game with sophomore first basman Jessica Sullivan (Midlothian, Va./Manchester) going 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Jessica Blosser (Crimora, Va./Wilson Memorial) and Nicole Shelton (Richmond, Va./Mills E. Godwin) each went 1-for-2 with Blosser scoring a run and Shelton driving in one.

The game was scoreless through the first five innings and then the Lady Royals erupted with a four-run sixth inning. Back-to-back singles by Lisa Lee (Buckingham, Va./Buckingham) and Wade put two on with no outs. After Messiah starting pitcher Corinn Eby got the next batter on a strike out, Eby walked Shelton to load the bases for Sullivan. Sullivan laced a single to right, scoring a run, to put EMU up 1-0. After a fielder's choice out at home put the Falcons only one out from getting out of the bases loaded jam, sophomore catcher Dana Hall (Shenandoah, Va./Page Co.) cleared the bases with a double to center field.

The four run tally by the Lady Royals was all Fraysher needed as she held the Falcons to only two hits over the next two innings to seal the win.

Lee went 1-for-4 with a run scored in game two.

The Lady Royals will now head into a big weekend series with Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday, April 4, beginning at 2 p.m., and then another Old Dominion Athletic Conference double header on Sunday, April 5, with Randolph-Macon College at 1:30 p.m.
