Lynchburg Spoils EMU Conference Field Hockey Opener 4-1

Senior Andrea Fleming scored three goals to lead Lynchburg College to a 4-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference field hockey victory over Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday in Lynchburg, Va.

Fleming put LC (3-5, 1-1 ODAC) on the board at the 7:18 mark of the first half with an assist from Kara Culkin. The pair switched places seven minutes later with Fleming assisting Culkin.

The Hornets carried the 2-0 lead into the break until Fleming scored again with 27 minutes remaining, this time assisted by Morgan Crandall.

EMU (4-3, 0-1 ODAC) got on the board two minutes later when freshman Meghan Hershey (Paradise, Pa.) scored with an assist from Stephanie Derstine (Telford, Pa.).

Fleming closed the scoring with a goal with two minutes remaining, assisted by Dawn McGaha. Christina Bender (Belleville, Pa.) made six saves for the Lady Royals. LC keeper Elizabeth Foskey also made six stops. LC led in shots 16-13 and penalty corners 11-9.

EMU will host Randolph-Macon Woman's College on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The game is scheduled to be broadcast on the internet on Royals' Audio.
