Lynchburg Prevails Over EMU in Overtime in Field Hockey

Junior Andrea Fleming's rebound goal in overtime gave Lynchburg College a 2-1 victory over Eastern Mennonite University in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference field hockey opener for both schools on Thursday in Harrisonburg, Va.
Junior Jonalyn Denlinger connected on a penalty stroke at 44:32 to give EMU (0-6, 0-1 ODAC) a 1-0 advantage. Lynchburg (3-1, 1-0 ODAC) struck back to tie the score 1-1 on an unassisted goal by sophomore Morgan Crandall at 62:24.
In overtime, the Hornets pushed the ball down the field quickly, firing four shots in the first minute and a half. Fleming then popped open on a rebound to score the game-winner at 71:50.
The Lady Royals led the Hornets in shots 16-14, including 16-8 in regulation, and also had a 9-4 advantage in corners. EMU goalkeeper junior Christina Bender recorded 11 saves, while Lynchburg senior Joanne Yednock stopped six shots in goal.
The Lady Royals will travel to Roanoke on Saturday for a 1:15pm ODAC match-up.
