Ryan Tierney, in his fourth season on the EMU coaching staff, enters his first as the Diamond Royals' Pitching Coach.
Prior to being named Pitching Coach by Head Coach Adam Posey, Tierney was the outfield coach and assisted with the development of the pitching staff from 2016-2018. Heading into the 2019 campaign, Tierney was named the Running Game Coordinator where the Diamond Royals set a program record for stolen bases in a season with 69.
Tierney brings with him two season of coaching experience in the Valley Baseball League where he spent two summers. In his time with the Harrisonburg Turks and Front Royal Cardinals, Tierney coached seven players who were selected in the MLB Draft.
As a player for EMU from 2012-2016, Tierney owned a 3-2 career record in 25 appearances with 51.2 innings pitched.
"Two things I value greatly are loyalty and trust. With Ryan, I have a deep amount of both. I had the opportunity to play alongside of him, coach him, and now coach with him and have seen him grow tremendously over the last seven years. I believe Ryan is a rising star in the game as a pitching coach and he will give us continuity in our development of pitchers at a high level. Ryan is someone who understands EMU, our program, and myself and I'm thrilled to have him take on more responsibility as he takes the next step in his coaching career," said Coach Adam Posey.
