Royals Fall to Blazers in Saturday Road Matchup

FREDERICK, Md. - Coming off their first win of the season, the Royals traveled up north to face the Hood College Blazers in a Saturday showdown.

A heavily disputed game in the midfield would set the tone for a game that ended in a Blazers 3-0 victory after two goals in the first half and one more in the second half.

Records
EMU 1-4-2, 0-0 ODAC | Hood College 2-4-0, 0-0 MAC

Highlights
  • Both teams started the game evenly strong. However, it was the Blazers who had the first chance of the game after a shot in the first minute to the left side of the goal that EMU's CJ Jefferson caught successfully.
  • The Royals responded early with two dangerous shots from Hannah Kepler, but both were unsuccessful in giving the lead to EMU.
  • Despite EMU's attacking attempts, the Blazers got their first goal of the match with a crossed header from a corner kick, taking a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute. Hood's second goal of the game came after a loose ball on EMU's defensive side that the Blazers' striker simply had to drive in, for what would be the score at the end of the first half.
  • At the beginning of the second half, the Royals started strong as Esme Cardoso took the ball at the 50 yard line and drove past two defenders to take a shot on goal, but it was corralled by Hood's goalkeeper to keep EMU off the board.
  • Gabi Dewey came in to net for the second half and picked up her first save after a lost ball. She would have three more later in the half to help the Royals' cause.
  • Hood's final goal of the day came after a cross into the box from a free kick that nobody on either side was able to connect with, and in turn just sailed into the Royals' net to seal the Blazers victory.
