HARRISONBURG, Va. - After their midweek game against Hollins was postponed due to adverse weather, EMU opened ODAC play on Saturday, welcoming in Guilford College.
Midfield disputes would set the tone of a game that would be defined by a late first-half EMU goal. Despite the many opportunities created by the Royals in the second half, the score remained untouched to give the Royals a 1-0 win for their second win of the season.

Highlights
- The game's first shots on goal would come in the 10th and 18th minutes; however, EMU's goalkeeper, C.J. Jefferson, stood solid to deny the Quakers their first goal.
- Karina Bondaruk would give a first warning to Guilford in the 24th minute when she took a shot on goal that would be saved by the Quakers' goalkeeper.
- Bondaruk wouldn't miss for a second time when, in the 35th minute, she intercepted a pass from the Quakers' goalkeeper that she would simply have to place on the left side of the goal to give the advantage to the Royals and send the game to halftime.
- The Quakers would come out strong in the second half to try and tie the game. Their first opportunity would come in the 54th minute with a shot on goal that would be captured by Jefferson.
- The Royals would reply to that first attempt just a minute later with an unsuccessful shot on goal by Hannah Kepler.
- The game would turn into a heavily disputed contest at midfield for the rest of the second half until the 86th minute, when Esme Cardoso took a breakaway shot that was saved by Guilford's goalkeeper.
- The Quakers would have one last attempt on goal in the final minutes, but Jefferson saved that shot and registered her first clean sheet of the season to end the game.
- This marks the first win for the Royals over the Quakers in nine years, with the last one coming Oct. 28, 2017.
