Royals Blanked in ODAC Opener

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Royals kicked off their 2026 ODAC slate on Wednesday, making the short trip up to Winchester to take on Shenandoah University.

The Hornets used nine goals in the first quarter and six in the second, en route to a 21-0 win over EMU.

Highlights

First Quarter
  • Alyssa Hunter picked up her first save just 38 seconds into the game, keeping SU off the board. But EMU couldn't clear it out of their zone, and the Hornets were able to strike first to lead 1-0. They added eight more goals in the quarter, despite six more saves from Hunter.
  • Hailey Walker picked up EMU's first shot on goal in the first quarter, but it was turned away by the Hornets keeper, giving Shenandoah a 9-0 lead after one.
Second Quarter
  • Ava Schwartz looked to add to her goal total in the second quarter, but her shot attempt was blocked.
  • Hunter came up with three more saves in the frame, but SU was able to tack on six more goals and take a 15-0 lead into the break.
Third Quarter
  • Schwartz, Ava Walker and Shayleigh Sims all tallied shots on goal in the third, as EMU looked to get on the board. But all three were saved by Shenandoah's Madison Perry, to keep the shutout intact.
  • Hunter added three more saves to her belt in the third quarter and EMU's defense held SU to just two goals through the third 15-minute frame.
Fourth Quarter
  • EMU's goalkeeper continued to be tested in the fourth, but she added four more saves while holding Shenandoah to three goals.
  • Sims picked up EMU's fifth shot on goal with just over 11 minutes left in the game, but it was saved by the Hornet keeper.
