Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Royals Battle, Fall at Home to Pfeiffer

HARRISONBURG, Va. - EMU was back at home on Friday, enjoying the warm weather in a matchup against Pfeiffer University.

It was an evenly matched game, but a late second quarter, early third quarter Falcon run proved to be the differences as Pfeiffer picked up a 13-8 win.

Records: EMU 0-3, 0-0 ODAC | Pfeiffer 3-0, 0-0 USA South

Highlights

First Quarter
  • EMU got on the board first when Ava Walker got past the Falcon defense and buried her shot in the back of the net, giving EMU a 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, after A. Walker caused a Falcon turnover, Hailey Walker tried to increase the Royals lead, but her shot was turned away by the Pfeiffer keeper.
  • The Falcons scored five straight over a four minute span, taking a 5-1 lead. But that was cut into in the waning seconds of the quarter, when A. Walker picked up her second goal of the day and making the score 5-2 after one.
Second Quarter
  • Three and a half minutes into the second, Joelle Blosser scored her first goal of the season and pulled EMU within two. Pfeiffer picked up two quick goals, but Ava Schwartz added her first goal of the game at the 4:58 mark, to bring EMU within three. But just when it looked like EMU would grab some momentum, the Falcons scored two more goals to wrap up the half and take a 9-4 lead into the break.
Third Quarter
  • A Pfeiffer goal extended their lead to six, six minutes into the third. But EMU continued to fight, with Shayleigh Sims scoring twice in a 34 second span: once off a pass from behind the goal from Ari Smart and another off the assist fromvA. Walker. Pfeiffer added another goal in the final two minutes, setting up an exciting fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter
  • The Falcons picked up a pivotal goal to start the fourth, pushing their lead to 12-6 less than a minute into the quarter.
  • A. Walker tallied her third goal of the game, but it was followed by a Pfeiffer goal to keep a six-goal lead. A. Walker wasn't done, however, because with 1:21 left on the clock, she took a pass from Schwartz and beat the Falcons keeper, to push the score to 13-8. Pfeiffer won the subsequent draw control and was able to ride the clock out after a pair of EMU green cards.
