Eagles Win Latest Route 42 Matchup

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – EMU made the short trip down 42 on Tuesday, for a volleyball edition of the Poultry Road Rivalry.

The Royals battled, putting up a good fight against the Eagles, but ultimately it was Bridgewater that picked up a 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-18) win.

Highlights

Set One: Bridgewater 25, EMU 22
  • The Royals took an early 5-3 lead to start the match, highlighted by Emma Greer's kill and block, along with a Kaitlyn Custis service ace. The Royals then went on a 7-4 run, with Kassidy Meadows picking up a pair of kills and Rebekah Allen adding a service ace.
  • Later in the set, with EMU still leading by four, 17-13, BC went on a 9-2 tilt to pull ahead 22-19. EMU rallied, cutting their deficit to one with a Meadows ace and kill, forcing a Bridgewater timeout. Out of the break, the Eagles were able to wrap up the set, winning three of the next four points, to take a 1-0 lead.
Set Two: Bridgewater 25, EMU 20
  • The teams swapped points, with neither able to pull ahead by more than three through the first 19 points. With BC holding a 10-9 lead, the Eagles went on a 5-1 run to give themselves some breathing room, 15-10.
  • An error and kills from Greer and Emma Lambert, pulled EMU within three, before three straight EMU errors pushed BC's lead to six, 19-13.
  • EMU went on a 6-3 run, getting kills from Meadows, Lindsay Bly and Kenley Smith, cutting the Bridgewater lead to three. But like the first set, the Eagles won three of the next four points, winning the set and leading the match 2-0.
Set Three: Bridgewater 25, EMU 18
  • Kills from Greer and Smith put EMU ahead 2-0 to start the third, but BC answered with a 6-1 run, leading 6-3.
  • Bridgewater extended their lead to 12-5, but EMU kept fighting, using an error and back-to-back kills from Bly, to pull within four. They would eventually pull within two, forcing a BC timeout.
  • Out of the timeout, Bridgewater extended their lead with a 6-2 run, leading 19-13. EMU was able to pick up kills from Lambert, Greer and Smith, but the Eagles finished out the match with a 6-5 run over the final 11 points.

What's Next
