NEW MARKET, Va.- The EMU Cross Country teams ran their third meet in as many weeks on Friday evening, staying close to home for the running of the JMU Invitational at New Market Battlefield in New Market, Va.
Despite missing a couple of key runners, the women's team fared well against their ODAC peers at the meet, defeating both Randolph and Sweet Briar. The field also included Division I schools James Madison, Mount St. Mary's and VMI.
Elili Asefa, a senior from Lancaster, Pa., led the way for the Royal women with a 24th-place finish.
The host school JMU won the team title with a low score of 29 points, led by individual champion Taylor Myers, who won with a time of 19:01.2.
Highlights
- Team Score: 144 points (5th of 7)
- Asefa traversed the hilly 5k (3.1 miles) course in a time of 21:46.1 on a warm, humid evening.
- Lauren Kauffman was not far behind Asefa, placing 27th with a time of 21:54.4.
- Claire Hurst crossed the finish line in a time of 25:00.9 to finish 45th. Juliette Soos was right on her heels, placing 47th and clocking in at a 5k time of 25:27.6.
- Daisy Buller (50th/26:17.7) and Emmy Teodoro (57th/31:45.0) completed the EMU contingent of runners at New Market.
What's Next
The EMU cross country teams will have a while to recover and train before their next jaunt to the course on Saturday, Oct. 18, when they compete in the Roanoke XC Invitational at Green Hill Park in Salem, Va. The meet will get underway at 10:30 a.m.
