SALEM, Va.- The EMU Cross Country teams headed south down I-81 on Saturday for one final tune-up before the ODAC Championships, competing in the South Region Showdown at Green Hill Park in Salem, Va.
Though shorthanded, the women's team held their own with two personal record performances among the five runners in the 6k (3.73 miles). East Tennessee St. won the team title with 31 points, while unattached runner Adelyn Fairley won individually with a time of 21:02.2.
Highlights
- Team Score: 456 points (17th of 20)
- Lauren Kauffman led the Royals on the day with a 61st-place finish in a deep, competitive field of runners. Kauffman crossed the finish line in a time of 24:41.9.
- Elili Asefa cracked the top 100 with a 94th-place showing, completing the 6k course in 25:49.8.
- Juliette Soos (152nd/28:30.0), Claire Hurst (171st/31:15.2) and Emmy Teodoro (187th/34:24.1) rounded out the Royals' lineup. Soos and Teodoro both ran 6k personal record times.
What's Next
The EMU cross country teams will vie for conference supremacy at the ODAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Bridgewater College. The meet gets underway with the men's 8k at 10 a.m., followed by the women's 6k at 11 a.m.
