Royals Dominate Guilford on Senior Day

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Royals celebrated its five seniors on Saturday, before taking on Guilford College in an ODAC matchup.

EMU had plenty more to celebrate, as all four field seniors scored, senior goalkeeper Cristal Narciso picked up 11 saves and five different players had hat tricks, as the Royals downed the Quakers 19-4.

Records: EMU 6-8, 4-3 ODAC | Guilford 4-10, 1-6 ODAC

Highlights

First Quarter
  • The Royals offense came out slinging, with six shots in the first 5 minutes, two of which were on goal and saved by the Quakers keeper. But she wouldn't be able to make a save on Amber Bonds' free position shot at the 10:10 mark, as her shot found paydirt to give EMU a 1-0 lead.
  • Narciso picked up her first save with just over nine minutes left in the quarter, but the Quakers tied it up with a goal a little over two minutes later. That tie wouldn't last long, however, as Bonds won the subsequent draw and Ava Walker buried her shot in the back of the net for a 2-1 EMU lead.
  • EMU added two more goals in the frame, with Courtney Crawford and Alex Palizzi both notching scores, and putting the Royals ahead 4-1 after the first 15 minutes.
Second Quarter
  • Crawford scored her second of the game 1:10 into the second quarter, and assisted on Palizzi's second of the game 10 seconds later, giving EMU a 6-1 lead early in the second quarter.
  • At 9:57, Crawford recorded her hat trick with her third goal and a 7-1 Royals lead. Guilford answered right back at 8:52, but Angel Hines made sure EMU kept their big lead, winning the draw, sprinting into the Quakers zone and firing a shot on net that beat the keeper, and making sure all four field seniors recorded goals.
  • Guilford added one more goal in the quarter, but EMU put up five unanswered, with Crawford, Bonds and Walker tacking on an additional one each and Liliana Guerrero scoring her first goal of the season, to put EMU in control 13-3 at the half.
Third Quarter
  • Shayleigh Sims and Walker both scored in the third quarter and Narciso saved the only shot she saw in the quarter, as the Royals were firing on all cylinders to lead 15-3 heading to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
  • The fourth started with Sims adding her second goal of the game, which was followed up by goals from Palizzi and Bonds, giving them each a hat trick. Guerrero wrapped up the scoring for EMU with her third goal of the game, and first career hat trick.
  • The Quakers added a fourth goal in the final seconds of the game, but it was well after EMU had the win locked up.
