HARRISONBURG, Va. – EMU Baseball began a busy first week of April with a non-conference home tilt against Mary Washington on April Fool's Day. The Royals entered the game seeking to avenge a 10-0 loss to the Eagles back in the season opener on February 10. EMU had the winning run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but they could not complete the comeback, falling 11-9.
One Royal reached a career milestone in the defeat.
Aidan Miller, a junior from Staunton, Va., collected his 100th career hit with a single in the bottom of the eighth.

Highlights
- The game started out as a pitchers' duel, as the starters Riles and Riley exchanged scoreless frames in the first two innings.
- EMU began the scoring in the bottom of the third inning. Erik Wilkinson smacked a single down the third base line, bringing home Nick Arnold to put the Royals up 1-0.
- Following a scoreless fourth inning, the two teams put up one run each in the fifth. In the bottom half, Miller singled to left center field, allowing Arnold to touch home for the second time in the game and edge EMU back out front, 2-1.
- The visiting Eagles flew away to a big lead, plating six runs in the top of the sixth. That made the score Mary Washington 7, EMU 2.
- In the eighth, Mary Washington padded their lead with three runs in the top half, but the Royals responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. Following his 100th career hit, Miller scored on an infield single by Noah Sanderson. Drew Petitt then dashed home on a Mary Washington wild pitch. Arnold snuck a single through the left side to bring home Hunter Sturgeon. Mary Washington led EMU 10-5 going to the ninth.
- The Eagles tallied one in the top half of the ninth to put EMU in a 11-5 hole going to the bottom half of the inning. The Royals staged a valiant comeback, starting with a triple by Miller to score Wilkinson. Hady Bruno then slapped a single through the left side, allowing Miller to score easily. A few batters later, with the bases loaded, Arnold belted a single to right field, bringing home both Bruno and Garrett Nyce, closing to within two runs of the Eagles. However, the rally ended there as Mary Washington held on for their 20th win of the season.

The Diamond Royals renew the Route 42 Rivalry with a trip to Bridgewater College tomorrow, Wednesday, April 2. First pitch against the Eagles is scheduled for 3 p.m.
