Royals Top 20 Goals for Second Straight Game, Notch Win over Sweet Briar

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Royals headed to Sweet Briar on Friday, for a matchup under the lights, against the Vixens.

After scoring 22 goals just two days ago, the EMU offense continued its hot streak, finding the back of the cage 21 times on Friday, in a 21-5 win.

Records: EMU 4-5, 2-1 ODAC | Sweet Briar 0-5, 0-2 ODAC

Highlights

First Quarter
  • EMU got on the board less than a minute into the game, as Courtney Crawford, who broke the century mark for career points on Wednesday, put her shot past the Vixens keeper for a 1-0 Royals lead.
  • Exactly two minutes later, Amber Bonds got her first goal of the game, finding the back of the cage for a 2-0 advantage.
  • EMU would tack on four more goals in the frame, with Crawford and Bonds each adding one, along with Ava Walker and Ainsley Clark chipping in goals, for a 6-0 EMU lead after one.
  • EMU's defense held Sweet Briar to just two shots in the first quarter, which were both stopped by Cristal Narciso.
Second Quarter
  • Crawford picked up a hat trick just one minute into the second, extending EMU's lead to 7-0. But she wasn't done as she added another goal at the 11:56 mark, this time off a free position shot, to make the score 8-0.
  • Sweet Briar tried to mount a comeback in the second, as they were able to go on a 3-0 run over an eight-minute span, to cut EMU's lead to 8-3 with just over two minutes left in the half. But right after the Vixens third goal, Clark won the draw control, took the ball down the field and fed a pass to Walker, who netted her second of the game.
  • Walker made history just before halftime, when she scored the 10th goal of the game and the 28th of her season. Her 28th goal sets the EMU record for most goals in a single season, which was set by Crawford in 2024 when she scored 27.
Third Quarter
  • The Royals continued their trend of scoring right out of the game, with goal number 11 at the 14:17 mark. After a Sweet Briar turnover, Shayleigh Sims picked up the ground ball and wasted no time getting in on the scoring action, for an 11-3 lead. That lead was pushed to 12-3 six second later when Bonds won the draw, pushed the ball downfield to Alex Palizzi, who found Bailey Freeman for her first goal of the game.
  • Clark added her second goal of the game on a free position shot and making it a running clock, as EMU pushed their lead to 13-3. Goal number 14 was picked up by Kayla Lindsay while number 15 was Bonds' hat trick goal, with an assist from Crawford.
  • One more goal was waiting for the Royals, this time from a returning Angel Hines, giving EMU eight different goal scorers through the first three quarters.
  • EMU's defense once again pitched a shut out in the third, as Narciso saved the only shot she saw.
Fourth Quarter
  • Despite giving up a pair of fourth quarter goals, EMU was able to continue extending their lead. Walker, Bonds and Hines each chipped in a goal while Clark added two more, giving her four on the game, a career-high.
